Absolute control and regulation can stifle growth and foster oppression.

Intergalactic Governing Bureau (IGB): Started by the UN in 2219, the IGB is the driving force behind the constant state of martial law on most colonized planets. Cold, bureaucratic, and ruthlessly utilitarian, it is the most oppressive power the explored universe has ever known. Its reach extends across all colonized worlds, as well as new ones, which it identifies for human expansion.

With a massive fleet of starships that inspire fear across the Milky Way, the IGB wields absolute authority, sanctioning wars whenever they prove profitable. Its home planet, Plenathu Viridus, is an inhospitable wasteland where natural reproduction has been abandoned—humans are now grown in labs, their birthright being lifelong conscription into the IGB’s military dictatorship. This regime is ruled by Grand Regent Kodo Wyngor, a leader over two centuries old who possesses not only his own vast experience but also the intelligence of the only true AGI known to mankind.

The IGB maintains power through the taxation of all planets in the Galactic Alliance and its stranglehold on the vitalerium trade through Deorum. Deorum is permitted to mine vitalerium due to its proximity to the Vitalerium Spatial Fracture (known as the Vital Cascade) and the Aganon family’s efficiency in streamlining the extraction process. The IGB purchases raw vitalerium from Kairus in exchange for weaponry, refined commodities, and universal credits. However, strict regulations control Deorum’s expansion, stockpiling, and access to crucial resources—ensuring that the planet never grows powerful enough to become a potential threat.
